An interview with our own Becky Perry

Question:
So, Becky, how long have you been a movie critic?

Becky:
I think one is a movie critic from the outset, when one starts watching movies. In that vein, I'd say since I was about two, unofficially, when I first watched 'The Secret of NIMH' by Don Bluth.

Q:
Did you like it?

B:
I loved it. From then on, Don Bluth was one of my animation idols.

Q:
You are a huge fan of animation and comics. Is that when it started?

B:
I'm not sure. Animation, probably between that and 'The Last Unicorn' by Rankin & Bass. Comics, more when I went to Canada the first time at age 7, and I discovered Archie comics.

Q:
A classic! What do you look for in a movie? And do you look for similar characteristics in a book?

B:
Lovely movie! Hm. It really depends on my mood. i don't like movies that are really dirty or sexual. I like chick flicks and testosterone flicks, brainy flicks, dumb flicks. it just depends. Books, too, but I prefer and enjoy a book more if it makes me think, if it gets philosophical somehow.

Q:
Are you more concerned with character development, or plot?

B:
Again it depends on what I want to watch and the movie. I prefer a movie with at least good characters, though.

Q:
Do you consider yourself a picky, or merely diserning entertainment searcher?

B:
I'd say discerning. I'm not always picky; I'm game for anything, especially if a friend suggests it. Then I formulate my own opinion on it.

Q:
Let's talk about you. Where do you come from?

B:
Sunapee, NH by way of Nashua, NH.

Q:
A small town girl. I understand you're about to graduate from college in the Mid-West. How did that happen?

B:
God. And I wanted way away from New England. Tired of it.

Q:
Bad vibes? or what?

B:
I needed a change, I wanted something new. I got tired of the area because I'm not that fond of it, and I believed God wanted me somewhere else.

Q:
I understand you spent some time in England?

B:
YES. The perfect country, the only place I've instinctively felt at home. *sigh*

Q:
You perfer the British life then?

B:
MHM! Only thing I wuld miss besides friends and family is American Mountain Dew, baby!

Q:
Ah ha! Any plans to go back?

B:
None in operatin, but in the long run, YES. I want to live there.

Q:
What about over-arching life plans? Do you know what you want to do after college?

B:
Only very loosely. Write, that's what I'd like to do. Novels and short stories mostly. Maybe do some graphic novels, a.k.a. comic books. Maybe get married...

B:
...to an Englishman.

Q:
Any particular goal you'd like to reach?

B:
Well, foolishly, I'd love to go to Oxford and also win the Nobel Prize for literature and move to England permanently.

Q:
It's never foolish to dream big.  I wish you well Becky, thank you.

B:
Thank you.
